FORT PIERCE, Fla. (CBS12) — Hundreds of dogs who were hours away from dying in the U.S. Virgin Islands have been rescued.
Over 150 dogs were abandoned because of the coronavirus pandemic and were scheduled to be euthanized this weekend.
But on Friday, with the help of Weedoo Boats and Big Dog Ranch Rescue, the dogs were flown to Fort Pierce on a charter plane and have been given a second chance.
“We stepped up to the plate,” said Tara Lordi, CEO of Wedoo Inc. “I got a phone call from Big Dog Ranch Rescue saying, ‘I need you to bring 180 dogs.'”
The dogs were later taken to Big Dog Ranch Rescue, where they’ll be taken care of until they find their forever home.
